A Day in Chiayi

Last week, I had a four-day holiday because of National Day.  I thought I would spend the time on meaningful things like studying, cleaning my room, or going out for a walk. But none of these were done, I was simply lying on my bed for the first two days.

On Saturday morning, after I woke up from my bed,I couldn’t  bear it anymore. So, I decided to hang out and wander around in the city. I did some research on the internet, and found out a ramen restaurant has rolled out new flavors of ramen. At the exact moment, I’ve made up my mind to try this out. 20 minutes later, I got in a taxi and was heading to Minxiong station.

When I got there, there’s only five minutes left before the train arrived. I was lucky enough to get on the train on time because I’ve already made a reservation at 1p.m..

I arrived at Chiayi station at 11:45. It was a sunny day, so it was very hot. I held an umbrella in my hand hoping I wouldn’t get tanned. I wouldn’t care about it as a kid, it’s a lot easier to go out back then. It’s very hot in Chiayi in summer, although I come from Tainan, I still can’t get used to the heat.

There’s still some time for me to wander around, but I was too lazy to walk under the sun. So, I went to a coffee shop nearby. I ordered a cup of iced coffee which is called“ Classic Chiayi People”. That was an interesting name, but I can’t tell any difference.

It was a bit disappointing for me because the ramen did not taste as what I imagined, but the servers were great, and the environment was quite clean. I would just order their normal flavor next time as it’s the safest choice.

At the end of the day, I was sitting on the floor in a bookstore listening to the music it played. I forgot the name of the song, but the melody was familiar to me. I think that was a good ending of the day.

As I was sitting in the coffee shop thinking about nothing, it got closer to 1 p.m.. The ramen shop is very close to the coffee shop, it took less than five minutes to get there. I ordered the new flavor ramen with a plate of Japanese gyoza. The restaurant owner is a nice person, he apologized for the waiting time of the dishes, but it actually took less than 15 minutes to serve.

The Japanese gyoza has a crispy skin, but it tastes just like dumplings inside. I like the out layer; I would probably order a plate of it without the filling. As for the ramen, I think it’s not my cup of tea. The chicken tastes weird in ramen, I think it tastes like sashimi in some ways. I also ordered some barbecue pork; it tastes a lot better than the chicken.
